Knight Boxx Road (County Road 220B) ResurfacingAffected Areas
Roads: County Road 220, County Road 220B, State Road 21 Counties: Clay Cities: Lakeside, Middleburg Overview
Project Began: February 2010 Expected Completion: Late Summer 2010 Project Description
Improvements to Knight Boxx Road (County Road 220B) in Clay County began Friday, February 22 and require daytime lane closures and other possible impacts to residents and motorists who use this busy county roadway. The project, located between State Road 21 (Blanding Boulevard) and County Road 220, will resurface the road providing smoother pavement. When the top layer of asphalt is removed or ground off, the traffic signal sensors embedded in the pavement at the intersections with Blanding Boulevard and at County Road 220 will be temporarily removed. This will cause the signals to not react as quickly to waiting traffic so motorists may experience some delays. The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is overseeing this project which will also include replacing a drainage pipe at County Road 220 and minor sidewalk improvements to meet current safety standards. This project will take about three months to complete depending on weather and unforeseen conditions. During the project, daytime lane closures will be allowed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. No night work will be allowed to avoid nighttime noise in adjacent neighborhoods. Duval Asphalt Products Inc. of Jacksonville was hired by FDOT to do the work at a cost of $633,940.
